An exciting 6-month secondment opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse to join us as a Band 7 Escalation and Outlier Sister/Charge Nurse at Weston General Hospital, until the end of April 2027.
This is a varied and autonomous role, providing senior nursing leadership across our inpatient escalation and outlier areas, including the Surgical Day Case Unit, Medical Day Case Unit and medical and surgical outliers. You will work closely with ward teams, the medical outlier team, Clinical Site Management and the wider MDT to support safe, high-quality patient care, effective patient flow and timely discharge.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced senior nurse looking to develop their leadership skills, broaden their operational experience and make a real difference during a busy period for the hospital.
Main duties of the job- Provide senior nursing leadership across escalation and outlier areas.
- Support the medical outlier team and coordinate safe, effective patient care.
- Attend and contribute to the 09:00 and 14:00 board rounds.
- Identify and elevate clinical, staffing or patient safety concerns appropriately.
- Support patient flow, transfers and timely discharge.
- Provide advice, guidance and support to nursing teams caring for patients outside their usual specialty.
- Maintain oversight of quality, safety and clinical governance across escalation areas.

Education & Qualifications- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Evidence of relevant post-registration professional development
- Teaching/assessing/mentorship qualification or equivalent experience
- Relevant management/leadership qualification or equivalent experience
- Up-to-date knowledge of acute nursing practice and professional standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including managing challenging situations
- Strong organisational and coordination skills within a changing clinical environment
- Understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement and risk management
- Appropriate IT skills and ability to use clinical information systems
- Experience of patient flow, escalation or outlier management
- Significant post-registration experience within an acute hospital setting
- Significant experience at a senior nursing level, including leadership/management responsibilities
- Experience managing complex clinical situations and competing priorities
- Experience supporting staff development and clinical supervision
- Experience contributing to audit, quality improvement or service development
- Experience of patient flow, escalation or outlier management
