RN Nurse, Healthcare Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Surgical Assistant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our friendly and supportive Pre-Operative Assessment team at Weston General Hospital. Pre-Operative Assessment plays a vital role in ensuring patients undergoing elective surgery are appropriately assessed, prepared and optimised ahead of their procedure. As a Band 5 Nurse, you will undertake pre-operative assessments, review medical histories and current health, coordinate investigations and identify concerns requiring further review or escalation.
You will provide patients with clear information, advice and reassurance to help them feel prepared for surgery. You will work closely with anaesthetists, clinicians, GPs, wards and departments and the wider multidisciplinary team to support a safe and coordinated surgical pathway, including patients with more complex needs. We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse with strong communication, organisational and clinical assessment skills.
Previous Pre-Operative Assessment experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome nurses with transferable clinical experience who are keen to develop within this specialist area. Join us at Weston General Hospital and develop your skills while making a real difference to patients preparing for surgery.
- Undertake comprehensive pre-operative assessments, planning and evaluating individualised care to ensure patients are safely prepared for surgery.
- Following appropriate training, undertake clinical skills including history taking, physical assessment, clinical reasoning, venepuncture, cannulation and ECG recording/interpretation, using Patient Group Directions where appropriate.
- Identify clinical risks or concerns and elevate appropriately, working closely with anaesthetists, clinicians and the wider multidisciplinary team to support safe and timely surgical pathways.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and carers, providing clear information, advice and education in preparation for surgery.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with Trust policy, professional standards and the NMC Code.
- Promote a safe clinical environment through effective infection prevention, medicines management and safe use of equipment.
- Respond appropriately to patient or carer concerns, resolving or elevating issues as required.
- Support the effective day-to-day running of the Pre-Operative Assessment service, working flexibly and collaboratively to meet patient and service needs.
