The Role

We are seeking dedicated and experienced Social Workers to join our Children in Care Team. The Children in Care team provide Social Work services to children and young people who are in the care of North Somerset Council and have a care plan to remain in care on a long term basis. Our team work closely with the Fostering Service, Leaving Care Service and Virtual School.

We are looking for qualified Social Workers who have the necessary skills, experience and motivation to promote positive outcomes for children in care. The team work well together, and you will be supported by regular supervision.

In this role, you will be the allocated social worker for a number of children who are in care and whose care plan is long term care. You will undertake assessments, care planning and therapeutic interventions to support children in care. You will work collaboratively with other professionals in order to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families.

You will be supported by a senior management team, with a manageable caseload, high quality reflective supervision working in supportive and creative social work teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with a small number of children and families, to achievepermanence andthe best possible long-term outcomes for children in care.
  • Continuously improve your practice by developing your knowledge and skills through post qualifying training.

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

Work Style

At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:

  • 2-3 days in the office
  • Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
  • Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
