Job Summary
Performs EEGs and Long Term Video-EEG monitoring on patients with scalp or intracranial placed electrodes. Performs special studies such as ECS, EPs, and PET-Scan.

Specific Duties
- Cleans and keeps equipment in good operating condition; ensures patient safety at all times; performs maintenance and minor repairs of lab equipment and reports the need for major repairs.
- Participates in conferences, technical meetings, and other educational activities. Ensures attendance at 85% of departmental meetings.
- Performs data retrieval, reduction operations, and prepares EEG records in a form suitable for interpretation by the physician including prescreening EEG and behavioral data.
- Analyzes complex ictal and interictal features, as well as artifacts encountered in standard and specialized EEG studies, for later analysis by the physician.
- Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observation of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient emergency situations.
- Performs specialized studies such as PET Scans, neonatals, and functional Brain Stimulation and Mapping (director cortical stimulation). Provides recording to physician for further interpretation.
- Performs standard and specialized EEG recordings (wake & sleep, bedside, isolation, and electrocerebral inactivity evaluations).
- Performs EEGs using the International 10-20 system as well as (10-10) in order to maintain standardization of electrode application.
- Routinely applies surface electrodes with paste or collodion in the 10-20/10-10 system to further enhance epileptogenic FOCI.
- Summarizes the patient’s neurological status and clinical history from the chart, patient, or other knowledgeable persons.
- Educates patient and families on EEG procedures to be performed.
- Perform Evoked Potential studies such as Brain, Auditory, Evoke Responses, SSEPs and VERs.
- Documents within the scope of practice all electronic medical record (EMR) meaningful use required fields in an effort to optimize utilization.
- Participates in Lean initiative to improve processes for opportunities to deliver higher quality, cost effective care, with greater customer service, & which impact can be measured by way of metrics.
- Utilizes Lean methodology to improve the family experience in the Brain Institute. Actively involved in continuously improving the patient experience and in the service recovery process.
Minimum
Job Requirements
- Graduate of an Electro-neuro-diagnostic Technology program accredited by Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent formal on-the-job training.
- American Heart Association BLS - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- 3-5 years of experience as Electroencephalographic Technologist I in basic EEG with emphasis in pediatrics
- High school education or equivalent preferred
- Completed Part I of ABRET (written exam) accreditation preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Special training in the operation of EEG equipment and knowledge of the technical aspects of data recording, storage and retrieval is preferred
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families and co-workers
- Ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions
- Ability to problem solve to adapt standard clinical procedures to the individual client’s needs
- Ability to work well with others and the willingness to learn new procedures
- Able to demonstrate proficiency in the International 10-20 system
