Summary
The Center for Health and Wellness seeks a part-time Assistant Director of Counseling. The Assistant Director shares responsibilities with the Director for the leadership of the Counseling Center. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing general mental health counseling, including the provision of individual and group therapy, intakes, crisis intervention, education and preventative outreach programming. The Assistant Director provides supervision of counseling trainees and counseling staff.

We are seeking a collaborative colleague who can add to the breadth and depth of services we provide. This is a part-time, benefits eligible position.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conducts mental health assessments and demonstrates the ability and knowledge of how and when to refer students to a higher level of care when deemed necessary
  • Maintains a caseload of individual therapy clients
  • Provides crisis counseling
  • Consults with college faculty, staff, coaches, parents and students on students of concern
  • Collaborates with Health Services staff and outside providers to provide comprehensive treatment
  • Develops, coordinates and implements ongoing education and outreach programming to increase awareness of mental health issues
  • Provides after hours on-call emergency coverage on a scheduled rotation basis with Director
  • Provides training and clinical supervision for counseling interns
  • Reviews and cosigns counseling intern documentation
  • Participates in training student leaders or groups (e.g. Resident Assistant training)
  • Maintains clinical record documentation on each client
  • Assists the Director in the leadership of Counseling Center and manages the office in the absence of the Director
  • Assists the Director in coordinating the development and/or maintenance of counseling resources including but not limited to the electronic record keeping system, referral lists, website, and marketing materials
  • Collaborates with Counseling Center staff and Student Affairs colleagues on various projects
Qualifications
  • Requires a master's degree in social work or counseling or a PhD/PsyD in psychology or counseling
  • Must be licensed as an independent practitioner in Massachusetts
  • Minimum of three years working with young adults ages 18-22, with preference for those with previous experience in a college setting
  • Experience and familiarity with the unique psychological and developmental needs of a diverse student population
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
  • Work is generally performed in an environment not subject to extremes in temperature, noise, odors, etc.
  • May spend long periods of time sitting
  • Time primarily spent in a normal office setting

Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000 annually
