The Tax Compliance Pillar oversees tax compliance for the clients of the family office and related entities, including US and international investment partnerships, operating entities, individuals, non-profits, and trusts. The Pillar collaborates with other pillars on planning and implementing new strategies and structures for clients.

Position Summary

We are hiring a Tax Compliance Pillar Head to lead this key group within our growing DFO team. The Pillar Head will manage a team responsible for a sophisticated tax compliance practice in the US and overseas. This role offers the opportunity to drive the compliance process and work on complex planning and projects for a family with varied interests in multiple businesses, in a one-of-a-kind team environment.

It is suited for someone who seeks challenge, relationship-building, and a lead role in managing a tax compliance function aligned with the founder s goals and standards.

The Tax Compliance Pillar Head will oversee the Pillar, including managing a sophisticated tax compliance function. The successful candidate will handle multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with high integrity and discretion due to the sensitivity of the information involved.

Responsibilities
  • Own and manage the overall tax compliance function, including external advisers and an internal team of 5–7 people.
  • Report on key pillar performance metrics and business deliverables.
  • Develop and invest in a talented tax compliance team.
  • Establish processes and best practices to meet business and stakeholder goals.
  • Oversee and manage a team that resolves complex technical tax compliance issues and communicate findings to senior management.
  • Manage the process to file accurate and timely tax returns with continuous improvement efforts.
  • Act as tax subject matter expert and final reviewer for complex returns for individuals, gifts, corporations, partnerships, foundations, charitable entities, and trusts, prepared internally or by third-party providers.
  • Oversee tax audits and responses to inquiries and notices.
  • Serve as in-house tax compliance resource to other departments.
  • Oversee Pillar budget, quarterly reporting to senior management, and annual planning.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects to support operational and departmental excellence and teamwork across functions.
  • Maintain knowledge of economic and political trends affecting tax or related legislation.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor s Degree or Master s Degree in Accounting.
  • CPA and/or JD.
  • 10+ years of recent experience with tax compliance, related research, and planning for high-net-worth individuals, flow-through entities, and trusts within a public accounting firm, family office, or wealth management tax department.
  • No less than 3 years of managerial experience with oversight of tax compliance processes, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Organized and able to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience related to Private Client Services, Trust Returns, Investment Partnerships, or International Tax Operations strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
Compensation

Compensation includes a competitive salary in the range of $500,000–$650,000 (inclusive of a merit-based bonus) and an excellent benefits package, including a comprehensive employer-paid medical plan and generous 401(k) match.
