Job SummaryUnder general supervision the incumbent will be responsible for understanding and maintaining a working knowledge of the various power plant technical systems. Responsibilities include performing complex instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical work involved in inspection, troubleshooting, repair, installation, testing, adjustment, and calibration of instrumentation and electrical equipment such as meters, automatic combustion controls, and regulating devices.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, identify, maintain, and repair power plant equipment. Perform Lockout/Tag out of equipment for maintenance work following the Fossil Tagging Procedure.
- Apply mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, regulating devices, and electrical equipment in power plants.
- Be familiar with steam boiler, turbo generator, pump, heater, steam trap, piping, pressure and level regulator, electrical distribution, and balance of plant systems.
- Comply with all Fossil Safety Procedures and Policies.
- Step‑up to Temporary Supervisor or Contract Administrator with responsibility for other employees or contractors.
- Work overtime as needed and be willing to work under unusual and normal conditions of a power plant environment.
- Use mechanical measuring principles and troubleshoot plant equipment, including preventative maintenance tasks.
- Perform water chemistry analysis on boiler makeup water to ensure proper control ranges, adjusting feed and blow‑down as needed.
- Install new control system equipment and use electrical/ control system test equipment and tools.
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Desired:
Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program or Journeyman Electrician’s License.
- Five years of power plant operations and/or maintenance experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Diagnose and repair instrument and control system malfunctions (transmitters, gauges, switches, valves, actuators, PLCs, etc.).
- Install instrumentation tubing (bending, cutting, Swagelok fittings) and troubleshoot fiber optics.
- Read and understand electrical wiring diagrams, process, instrumentation, flow, and layout drawings.
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems (breakers, motor starters, motors, switch gear).
- Install electrical systems (conduit bending, panels, junction boxes, termination).
- Lift 100 lbs.; lift and carry 50 lbs.; climb scaffolds, stairs, ladders.
- Team oriented, self‑motivated, initiative to perform tasks independently with timely feedback.
- Basic computer knowledge for Entergy Fossil Applications Time and Labor and AIMM Maintenance Management System.
Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test. This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre‑employment and random drug testing.
Working Conditions /Physical Requirements
Employees may be required to work additional hours, in alternate locations, and/or perform additional duties during storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations. Exempt employees may not receive overtime pay for such duties.
