Mott Mac Donald is seeking a Principal Transmission Line Engineer to lead and expand our Transmission Line Engineering practice in the North Division. This is a senior leadership role ideal for an experienced professional ready to drive technical excellence, mentor a growing team, and deliver high-impact transmission line projects across New York, New Jersey, and New England.

In this role, you will oversee the planning, design, and execution of overhead and underground transmission line projects (69kV to 500kV), leveraging your deep knowledge of utility standards, structural and electrical design, and project delivery. You will also play a key role in business development and strategic growth of the transmission line portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of transmission line engineers and technical specialists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the design and analysis of transmission line systems, including structure loading, conductor selection, line routing, and foundation design, in accordance with NESC, ASCE, and utility standards.
  • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with project scope, codes, and client requirements through rigorous design reviews and technical oversight.
  • Manage project delivery from concept through construction, including estimating, scheduling, resource planning, and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide technical leadership in resolving complex engineering challenges related to line design, constructability, and system integration.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal preparation, client engagement, and strategic planning to grow the transmission line practice.
  • Collaborate with international teams and contribute to global knowledge sharing and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred). Professional Engineer (PE) license required; multi-state licensure is a plus.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in transmission line engineering, including leadership of large-scale projects and teams.
  • Strong understanding of transmission line design tools (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, SAG
    10, LPILE).
  • Proven experience working with utilities, OEMs, EPC contractors, and engineering consultants. Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.
