Autism Support Specialist (Children & Families)
SummaryProvide a variety of services for children and adults with autism and their families, including support staff programs, preparation of informational resources, and outreach efforts. Comply with all principles of Human Rights, D.P.P.C., Department of Developmental Services, the Division of Medical Assistance and all other applicable funding regulations as adhered to by Lifeworks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Help develop, organize, and facilitate activities and programs, both at our center and in the community.
- Work a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and weekends, to meet individual needs and facilitate programs.
- Meet with new and existing referrals to assist with benefits applications and informational resources.
- Assist in the facilitation of workshops and trainings on topics pertinent to the ASD population.
- Develop material and outreach efforts, including newsletters, community offerings, and current research.
- Help form community collaborations and partnerships that benefit those we serve.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
- Prioritize tasks with attention to detail and multitask effectively.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Occasionally travel throughout the Newton/South Norfolk & Metro‑Boston area.

Education and ExperienceBA/BS and experience in the Human Services Field, or H.S. diploma/GED plus 5 years’ experience working in the Human Services Field.
Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Vehicle and TravelRequires a legally insured and inspected automobile for use to be presented at work and available for use during working hours. If the program has an agency vehicle, staff are expected to drive it as needed.
Certificates, Licenses, and RegistrationsValid and current driver's license from the state of residency, CPR, First Aid.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently must stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle or feel. The employee occasionally must reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
