Senior Highway Project Manager | Hybrid | Wethersfield, CT

VHB's Wethersfield office is seeking a Senior Highway Project Manager. This role provides an opportunity to lead complex transportation projects and play an important role in expanding and shaping the group. The position requires a blend of project‑management skills, technical expertise, and innovative thinking. Experience working with CTDOT is required, and experience with local agencies is a plus.

• Serve as Senior Project Manager for CTDOT and municipal clients.
• Develop and manage client relationships.
• Manage staff and provide technical and professional development.
• Assist with strategy for expansion of transportation services throughout CT.
• Monitor project financial performance.
• Attend and lead meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and navigate design/permitting challenges.
• Develop and execute scope associated with transportation design projects.
• Participate in professional organizations that promote relationships with clients and teaming partners.
• Develop new project opportunities and prepare/manage proposal submissions.
• Manage large multi‑disciplinary highway reconstruction projects, both traditional bid‑build and alternate delivery (Design‑Build, PPP, etc.).
• Assist with the production and delivery of transportation projects through the construction administration phase.
• Conduct pre‑design project planning and financial management.
• Design highways and roads including geometric layout, grading, and drainage; work with utilities and obtain environmental permitting.
• Develop technical design and specification documents.

• Advanced knowledge of highway engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Advanced knowledge of state regulations governing transportation design.
• Software:
  Micro Station Open Roads Designer, Civil3D a plus.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• Master's degree a plus and may substitute for 1 year of experience.
• 11‑15 years of professional transportation engineering experience, with at least 5 years working with CTDOT.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; CT PE preferred.
• Substantial professional expertise with progressive highway design projects required.
