The State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking qualified applicants for a fullchk‑time Staff Attorney 2 position in Wethersfield, CT.
Position DetailsFull‑time, 40 hours/week (Mon‑Fri).
Working hours:
either 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. or 8:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.

Duties- Represent the DMV at administrative hearings and assist the Office of the Attorney General with cases under appeal.
- Assist in day‑to‑day operations of the division by drafting and processing contracts.
- Present hearings, respond to Freedom of Information requests, and provide informal legal opinions on various legal matters.
- Research, interpret, analyze, and apply complex and conflicting laws, regulations, and case law.
- Act as a hearing officer or represent the agency in formal administrative and public proceedings.
- Negotiate and draft settlement agreements; draft advisory opinions, rulings, decisions, recommendations, findings, legislation, statutes, regulations, publications and other related legal documents.
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of trials and appeals.
- Consult with the Office of the Attorney General on legal issues.
- Conduct investigations and enforcement proceedings, prepare comprehensive reports, pleadings, and court papers.
- Participate in educational activities, provide legal guidance, input into policy formation, and review court decisions and proposed laws.
- Maintain precedent manuals, review legal documents for sufficiency, testify at or monitor legislative proceedings, and represent the agency in court when authorized.
- Two (2) years of experience in the practice of law.
- Must be admitted to practice law in Connecticut.
- Experience with Driving Under the Influence laws.
- Experience negotiating and drafting contracts.
- Experience as an attorney presenting cases under the Uniform Administrative Procedure Act.
- Experience with the Freedom of Information Act and its application to state agency records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word).
- Experience presenting legal cases virtually using Webex.
- Experience drafting and editing correspondence regarding various legal matters.
Incumbents may be required to travel.
