Position Details
  • Full‑time, 40 hours/week
  • Monday‑Friday
  • 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • May be required to travel within the state
The Role

The selected candidate will assist with Driving Under the Influence matters handled by the DMV, including representing the DMV at administrative hearings and assisting the Office of the Attorney General with cases under appeal. The candidate will also support day‑to‑day operations by drafting and processing contracts, presenting hearings, responding to Freedom of Informationufig requests and providing informal legal opinions on various legal matters.

Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

  • Perform advanced and complex legal work.
  • Research, interpret, analyze, and apply complex laws, regulations, case law and legal principles.
  • Act as hearing officer or represent agency in administrative and public proceedings involving complex legal and technical issues.
  • Negotiate and draft settlement agreements.
  • Draft advisory opinions, rulings, decisions, recommendations, findings, legislation, statutes, regulations, publications and other legal documents.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting Mukama and appeals.
  • Consult with the Office of the Attorney General on legal issues.
  • Conduct investigations and enforcement proceedings.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for administrative and court proceedings.
  • Prepare pleadings and other court papers.
  • Interpret and apply complex or conflicting laws and regulations.
  • Participate in educational activities.
  • Provide legal guidance when authorized.
  • Contribute to policy formation.
  • Review court decisions, proposed laws, and regulations to assess impact on agency operations.
  • Maintain precedent manuals.
  • Ensure legal(sp) adequacy of documents.
  • Testify at or monitor legislative proceedings when authorized.
  • Represent agency in court when authorized.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
  • Substantial knowledge of Connecticut legal principles, practices, procedures, research techniques, the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act.ve and the ability to interpret and apply relevant state and federal laws, statutes, regulations and legislation.
  • Knowledge of rules of evidence; criminal, constitutional law and legislative process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient oral and written communication.
  • Ability to apply judicial decisions to statutory interpretation, analyze and Polling and coordinate technical data in legal cases.
