Group Accountant

Group Accountant - Adults & Public Health (Interim) Spencer Clarke Group are working closely with a Local Authority to appoint an Interim Group Accountant within their Adults & Public Health Finance team. This is a senior business-partnering assignment supporting high-value, complex service budgets. The role will act as the principal finance contact for senior stakeholders, providing clear financial insight, robust forecasting and strategic challenge across the portfolio.

What's on Offer Rate: £300 - £500 per day (dependent on experience) Contract Length: 6 months initially

The Role The successful candidate will provide high-quality financial leadership and support across Adults & Public Health services.

Key responsibilities include:

* Acting as the lead finance contact for a portfolio of senior service managers
* Delivering clear and unambiguous monthly and quarterly financial monitoring
* Producing robust forecasts and managing in-year budget pressures
* Supporting savings development, financial recovery plans and MTFS planning
* Providing expert financial analysis and business case support for transformation
* Supporting statutory accounts preparation and external audit requirements
* Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and financial reporting standards This role requires strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to provide both support and constructive challenge at senior level. About You You will ideally have:
* Proven Local Authority finance experience
* Experience supporting Adults and/or Public Health budgets
* Strong forecasting, budget management and savings delivery exposure
* Experience contributing to year-end processes and audit
* A confident business-partnering approach with senior stakeholders
* CCAB qualification (desirable)
