Job Title
Cleansing Operative

Salary£18.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities- General cleansing of local recreational grounds, cemeteries and open spaces.
- Removing litter, emptying litter and dog bins.
- Cleaning graffiti or marks.
- Carrying out duties in accordance with best practice.
- Conducting park inspections and reporting any issues.
- Conducting routine play inspections.
- Working independently to manage assignment daily route and tasks.
- Driving company vehicles.
- Ensuring all equipment is used safely and reporting defects.
- Adhering to all Health and Safety procedures.
This role is based on a 24-hour working week, scheduled across 3 days from Friday to Sunday (7:00 am – 3:30 pm). Shifts are 8.5 hours long, including a 30‑minute unpaid break, resulting in 8 paid hours per day.
Health and Safety Duties- Act in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Glendale Health and Safety Policy at all times.
- Carry out instructions from the Line Manager in accordance with Glendale’s Health and Safety Policy, Codes of Practice, Quality Management Systems and Employee Handbook.
- Know Health and safety regulations within the workplace and during activities.
- Complete necessary induction and health and safety modules prior to commencement.
- Be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and others in the working environment.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure equipment is safe to use.
- Ensure knowledge of suitability of all machinery/equipment for the task and safe use.
- Use machinery/equipment correctly in accordance with its handbook.
- Report any machinery/equipment that does not operate correctly immediately, complete defect tag.
- Complete and submit maintenance sheets to Line Manager.
- Secure all machinery/equipment when not in use.
- Be aware of tasks, targets and required standards for each day.
- Maintain satisfactory level and standard of work output.
- Conduct yourself politely and friendly at all times.
- Complete and return associated administration to office within required timescales.
- Operate duties to minimise impact on the environment, including safe and efficient use of fuels/oils and correct handling and disposal of waste.
- Deal with spillage of fuels or chemicals quickly and efficiently, complying with regulations.
- Previous knowledge of cleansing and litter collection desirable; training will be provided.
- Previous experience with handheld machinery desirable; full training will be given.
- Must hold a full, clean UK driving licence.
- Reliable and conscientious.
- Can‑do attitude.
- Willingness to learn.
- Ability to work on one's own initiative.
- Previous experience of grounds maintenance work, horticultural tasks.
