Patient Access Coordinator – Part Time (Evening)
The Patient Access Coordinator, under the supervision of Patient Access Supervisors, serves as the first point of contact for patients entering the South Shore Health System. The role requires exceptional customer service, professionalism, and the ability to support a diverse patient population while ensuring accurate registration, scheduling, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Identify, register, and schedule patients with a 98% accuracy rate.
- Coordinate bed placement activities in collaboration with Patient Flow Facilitators, nursing leadership, and case managers.
- Monitor bed occupancy, maintain appropriate bed numbers, and manage bed requests.
- Act as the primary contact for attending physicians regarding elective pre‑operative, chemotherapy, and other admission patients, ensuring appropriate placement on nursing units.
- Review elective surgical schedules to ensure efficient utilization of specialty nursing floors.
- Collaborate with ED nursing leadership and other stakeholders to monitor patient flow barriers and acuity, facilitating placement on appropriate units.
- Maintain all required paperwork, including federal and state‑regulated documents, and enforce the physician suspension list.
- Support patient arrival by ensuring identification, registration, and compliance with all regulatory and financial counseling processes.
- Assist with patient flow during system downtimes by utilizing manual processes.
- Manage the death process: complete death certificate worksheets, notify the State Medical Examiner for ED deaths, communicate with the New England Organ Bank, and release to funeral directors according to Massachusetts laws.
- Utilize departmental computer programs and internal/external websites efficiently, including the insurance eligibility system and API time‑card system.
- Adhere to patient identification policies, universal precautions, respiratory etiquette guidelines, and complete NIMS training.
- Work independently to manage daily assignments, including scheduling, cancellations, rescheduling, and wait‑list management for designated areas.
- Location:
55 Fogg Road, Weymouth, MA 02190. - Shift: Evening (United States of America), 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: $20.05 – $26.98 per hour.
- Minimum education:
High school diploma preferred; two (2) years of college preferred. - Minimum experience:
One (1) year of admitting experience is required. - Core skills:
Computer proficiency, strong telephone and interpersonal communication, customer service excellence, knowledge of medical insurance, problem‑solving and critical thinking.
Employment type:
