Responsible for responding to requests for ALS intervention and for providing emergency medical care in the pre-hospital environment according to Paramedic Protocols and Policies approved by SSHS and the ALS system Medical Director. Performs other duties related to the provision of care and development of the community EMS system. Assists in the Hospital as assigned after appropriate credentialing.

Compensation Pay Range:

$16.40 - $38.47

Responsibilities:

Responds to requests for paramedic services from area departments in a timely and safe manner.

Upon receiving call, finishes task at hand and acknowledges town dispatcher by radio within two minutes.
Follows Massachusetts laws Chapter 89, Sect. 7 and Chapter 90, Sections 7, 13, 14, 16 and 17 regarding emergency driving.
Contacts requesting town dispatcher by radio to report time enroute, scene arrival and unavailable status.
Parks vehicle in areas designed by local fire or police, or in a safe area if not directed.

Completes documentation and records according to department policy.

Run report will be completed accurately and legibly.
Run report data will be entered into computer database accurately.
The vehicle/equipment checklist will be completed on every shift.
All responses will be recorded in the trip log.
Patient charges will be completed and submitted with each trip report where treatment was provided.
Patient refusals will be documented as they occur completing a trip sheet and refusal form.
Narcotics will be signed off per policy.

Ensures vehicle and equipment are ready for response at all times.

Knows location and proper use of equipment.
Restocks vehicle and equipment within 30 minutes following run.ndkls

Renders pre-hospital medical care at the paramedic level.

Performs complete and accurate patient assessments.
Adheres to Region IV treatment protocols and procedures and carries out medical control's orders within own scope of practice.
Is proficient in all related ALS skills.
Has a pleasant and professional manner with patients.
Gives accurate, concise radio reports and adheres to established radio communication protocols.
Maintains sufficient knowledge of geography.

Performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of the ED physicians.

Performs only those techniques within scope of training, under direction of Medical Control Physician.
Assists with 12 Lead EKGs, blood draws, IV insertions.
Charts skills done in-house according to appropriate policy.

Acts as a team leader in dealing with emergency responses.

Demonstrates ability to control emergency scenes.
Directs EMTs and other medical personnel on scene in the patient's best interest.
Interacts with local EMTs and public safety, fire and police in a spirit of cooperation and professionalism.

Takes proper care of vehicle and equipment.

Prevents loss or damage of equipment by careful handling and storage.
Maintains equipment and vehicle according to policy.
Keeps vehicle locked when unattended.

Pursues new levels in Paramedicine technology and participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development.

Maintains current certifications as required.
Shares new information with fellow staff.
Attends monthly staff meetings.
Maintains a skill log for all skills done.

Participates in community activities which improve the public's understanding of the EMS system.

Represents South Shore Health & Educational Corporation and the Department of Paramedic Services to the public in a positive, professional manner.
Participates effectively in planned public relations events.
