Position: Registered Nurse New Grad Residency – March 2026 Start

Registered Nurse New Grad Residency – March 2026 Start

South Shore Health invites applicants for a highly structured one‑year residency program designed to support new graduate nurses (no prior RN experience) in transition to clinical practice.

The program begins March 23, 2026. Residency participants will work full‑time, 36–40 hours per week, and receive a mix of lectures, simulated scenarios, and hands‑on skills training. Schedules include every other weekend rotation and, upon completion, nurses will be scheduled for 36‑hour night shifts with alternate weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Medication administration and documentation in accordance with SSH policies.
  • Medication reconciliation and proper narcotic documentation.
  • Developing, discussing, and communicating prioritized problem lists and individualized plans of care.
  • Initiating admission assessment within 8 hours of admission and ongoing assessment.
  • Documenting patient care following nursing policy and state disease processes.
  • Assessing patient comfort using appropriate pain scales and documenting responses.
  • Advocating for patients and families, seeking resources for ethical decision‑making.
  • Communicating daily plan of care via whiteboard updates each shift.
  • Facilitating discharge/transfer goals by 12:00 pm and communicating barriers.
  • Fostering a culture of safety through personal ownership and commitment.
  • Verifying patient identification with two identifiers before invasive procedures.
  • Complying with CDC hand hygiene guidelines, universal precautions, and PPE use.
  • Maintaining a safe environment that meets regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrating individual roles during hospital codes and emergency preparedness.
  • Assuming responsibility for personal professional development, including evidence‑based practice and quality improvement.
  • Obtaining at least 5 contact hours per year in the area of practice.
  • Practicing within the legal boundaries of the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act and supervising assigned personnel.
  • Accepting and responding appropriately to feedback and recommendations for change.
  • Establishing professional working relationships with interdisciplinary colleagues.
  • Applying critical thinking to analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and communicate solutions.
  • Staying informed about changes in hospital policy and procedure.
  • Utilizing technology and software applications required by the department and unit.
  • Understanding downtime operation and the associated responsibilities.
  • Adhering to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
  • Safeguarding patient privacy and security in line with SSH’s programs.
  • Identifying and addressing potential compliance issues.
  • Promoting patient‑ and family‑centered care, respecting values and preferences.
  • Supporting age and cultural diversity through sensitive interaction and resource utilization.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required prior to start.
  • Pass NCLEX and obtain a valid Massachusetts RN license by March 6.
  • No prior RN working experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Massachusetts RN registration.

Base pay: $38.20 per hour. Off‑shift differentials: weekdays $8/hour, weekends $15/hour. Benefits begin on day one of residency.
