Responsibilities- Consult with physicians, psychiatrist and other clinical staff members as necessary.
- Diagnose health and developmental problems.
- Provide advanced practice nursing care to patients with acute or chronic mental health problems, managing therapeutic regimens according to protocols.
- Identify risk factors and implement appropriate prevention and intervention.
- Provide psychotherapeutic intervention, including crisis intervention, and health teaching to clients.
- Identify patient teaching needs and plan the education process.
- Coordinate referrals and facilitate transfers.
- Provide psychopharmacologic/intervention services.
- Work collaboratively with selected disciplines to develop integrated care plans for the psychiatric patient population throughout the continuum.
- Act as clinical resource to other nursing staff in the area of specialization.
- Plan and participate in staff education programs.
- Provide consultative liaison services.
- Participate in community outreach as appropriate to describe the mental health program.
- Coordinate the delivery of care with other clinical staff, consulting and collaborating as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with providers of psychiatric and mental health services, including South Shore Hospital’s psychiatric staff.
- Requires BSN, Masters Degree in psychiatric nursing/related field. Current certification in specialty through American Nurses Association with authorization to practice in the expanded role. License to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the expanded role.
- Minimum
Work Experience:
Minimal four (4) to five (5) years of acute psychiatric nursing and crisis evaluation/intervention. - ACLS (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH), Certified Nurse Practitioner - Board of Registration in Nursing (Massachusetts)
This role consists of four 10 hour shifts per week, rotating days and evening coverage, with one weekend a month and rotating holidays.
