Under the immediate direction of the Manager and/or Supervisor of Security & Public Safety, provides protective services to the South Shore Hospital community in a professional and supportive manner. Performs a variety of security and safety related functions focusing on the protection of patients, visitors, employees, medical staff, volunteers and Hospital assets.
Responsibilities:
Conducts proactive patrols of the Hospital campus: Identifies security vulnerabilities, safety hazards, and violations of Hospital policy. Takes immediate corrective action to mitigate vulnerabilities or hazards, collaborates with other departments, and documents deficiencies.Provides access control: Grants access to locked areas, restricts unauthorized access, and documents activities.Responds to emergent situations: Handles escalating and violent situations, communicates effectively, and documents occurrences.Responds to emergencies: Takes leadership during emergencies, conducts drills, and initiates actions to mitigate hazards.Performs service related duties: Provides assistance to patients and staff, manages property, and responds to calls.Monitors the Hospital parking program: Enforces parking policies and responds to complaints.Embraces technology: Monitors access control and surveillance systems and produces identification badges.Conducts initial investigations: Secures scenes, gathers statements, and documents incidents.Completes incident reports: Ensures reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.Coordinates snow removal: Manages snow removal efforts and responds to weather-related emergencies.Fosters a culture of safety: Attends safety training and adheres to safety guidelines.Minimum Requirements:Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Work Experience: Public safety experience preferred; criminal justice degrees considered.
Licenses / Registrations: MA Drivers (or CDL) with verification of acceptable driving record.
Skills: Knowledge of community policing, risk analysis, and crime prevention concepts. Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage aggression and interact respectfully with diverse populations. Basic computer skills and strong writing abilities required.
Must be able to lift people/equipment, sit, walk and/or stand for extended periods, and withstand adverse weather conditions.
