We are pleased to announce we have an exciting opportunity here at Potens for a School Caretaker.
Please note that sponsorship is not available for this role. This role will involve working across two sites, our Lower School in Weymouth and our Upper School in Dorchester.

Arbour House School is an independent SEN school with split sites – Lower and Upper, based in Weymouth and Dorchester for young people aged 6‑18 with complex social, communication, and learning needs. We provide a bespoke, creative, and stimulating curriculum with a particular focus on developing independent living skills and real‑life learning. We aim to support our pupils to achieve their full potential, contribute to their communities, gain meaningful employment, or progress to further education.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting and coordinating all odd job tasks and routine maintenance activities to ensure planned work, reactive breakdowns, and cyclical programmes are delivered.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and liaise with our central estates department.
  • Oversee the premises to ensure they meet compliant Health and Safety standards and perform basic upkeep of the external grounds.
  • Maintain and manage accurate health and safety compliance records, such as water temperature checks, emergency lights, fire alarms, etc.
  • Supporting with keyholding responsibilities and being able to respond to out‑of‑hours callouts from the school.
  • Maintain the surrounding grounds and vegetation.
  • Providing support to our other site in Weymouth may be required.
  • The position is term‑time only, with occasional hours in school holidays. Opening up and doing a Health & Safety check in the morning, then doing any repairs and locking up in the evening. Shift start/finish times are negotiable and will be discussed at interview.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience with odd job tasks and willingness to undertake them.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively with all staff and students with Special Educational Needs.
  • Flexibility to work as needed and a good team player.
  • Proficiency in basic use of Microsoft Office, email, and web browsing.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in line with policies when exposed to sensitive information.
