Educational Psychologist – Dorset Children’s Services
Dorset Children’s Services seeks to recruit a creative and innovative educational psychologist to its existing team of skilled and friendly staff. The role offers a dynamic, supportive environment where you can make a difference every day, broadening and deepening your psychological skills.
Qualifications- Qualified educational psychologist registered with the HCPC or in the final year of training. Applications are also encouraged from trainees in their second year of training.
- Applicants must be available to work in the Chesil (Weymouth) and North locality.
- Applicants must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle or suitable transport.

- Provide psychological advice towards education, health and care needs assessments; every interaction is an intervention.
- Deliver a solution focused consultation-based approach to preventative work.
- Provide group supervision to ELSAs and other colleagues in schools such as DSLs and staff groups across Children’s Services.
- Link work to schools including joint consultation planning meetings with centrally funded specialist teachers.
- Train EY providers, schools, FE providers and Children’s Services workforce.
- Provide critical incident and sad event support to schools; lead in working with schools and partners when such events happen.
- Strategic support and lead on approaches and interventions.
- Collaborate with colleagues from Children’s Services and partner agencies including MHSTs and CAMHS.
- Support the local authority in using evidence-based practice to develop a continuum of provision.
- Work for an LA leading social care reform as one of the Pathfinder LAs and recently received a positive outcome from the SEND Area Inspection (March 2024).
