Senior Technical Author - Weymouth, Loudwater or Greenford - Remote/Hybrid.
Contract Type: Permanent
Security: UK Security Clearance required
Summary- Recruiting on behalf of a leading defence and advanced engineering organisation
- Opportunity to join an established Technical Authoring function supporting complex hardware and software systems
- Role involves producing clear, accurate and user-friendly documentation for highly engineered products
- Exposure to cutting-edge and world-leading technologies within a regulated environment
- Suitable for both Technical Author and Senior Technical Author levels, depending on experience
- Flexible, varied role working across multiple projects and engineering disciplines
- Develop, maintain and support technical documentation, including User manuals, Maintenance manuals & Service bulletins
- Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, concise language using Simplified Technical English
- Ensure documentation complies with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Work closely with engineers, project managers and support teams to gather and validate technical information
- Manage document revisions and configuration control throughout the product lifecycle
- Support digital documentation, including interactive manuals and online help systems
- Produce and maintain documentation using S1000D, taking ownership of assigned publications
- Create or support technical drawings where required
- Engage flexibly across multiple projects, balancing cost, quality and schedule considerations
- Support Mechanical Engineering and Configuration Management activities as demand arises
- Develop broader engineering knowledge as part of the role
- Experience working as a Technical Author within an engineering, manufacturing or regulated environment
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and technical terminology
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with documentation tools (nice to have, not essential), such as:
Adobe Frame Maker & Mad Cap Flare - Knowledge or experience of S1000D standards
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently
- Comfortable working with detail-heavy technical information
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport across diverse teams
- Confident communicator, able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences
- Proactive approach to resolving conflict and promoting collaborative working
- Capable of mentoring and supporting less experienced colleagues
- Detail-oriented with a structured and methodical approach
