Junior Production Engineer

Location:

Reports To:

Process Manufacturing Engineering Manager

The Junior Production Engineer supports the development, maintenance, and improvement of production processes to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing. This is a development role, providing hands‑on experience in production engineering, supporting day‑to‑day operations, and building technical capability under the guidance of senior engineers. The role focuses on learning core engineering principles, supporting problem solving, and contributing to continuous improvement activities.

Reasonable flexibility will be required in this role to support operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities Process & Documentation
  • Assist in creating and maintaining process documentation, including work instructions and process notes.
  • Support the development of process flows and contribute to PFMEA activities.
  • Help define production routings and basic process steps.
  • Assist with creating labels, packaging definitions, and standard documentation.
  • Support updates to manufacturing equipment programs and records.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and records.
Manufacturing Support
  • Provide day‑to‑day engineering support to production areas.
  • Assist with machine setup, basic troubleshooting, and process optimisation.
  • Support operation of equipment such as PCB routers, depaneling machines, or test systems under supervision.
  • Help train operators on basic processes and procedures.
  • Support production teams in resolving routine issues.
  • Occasionally assist with production activities when required.
Equipment, Tooling & Maintenance
  • Support the design, sourcing, and implementation of simple jigs, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Assist in equipment installation, validation, and setup activities.
  • Liaise with engineers, maintenance teams, and subcontractors as required.
  • Support basic maintenance activities and elevate issues where appropriate.
Quality & Problem Solving
  • Assist in investigating production and quality issues using structured approaches.
  • Support root‑cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Help ensure processes comply with quality and safety standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities and small‑scale projects.
Operations & Cross-Functional Support
  • Support goods‑in queries and material‑related issues.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for engineering and production metrics.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams.
  • Provide support for new product introduction (NPI) activities where required.
Development Expectations

Actively develop technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems. Learn and apply structured problem‑solving and continuous improvement tools. Build understanding of engineering documentation, standards, and controls. Progress towards independent ownership of defined processes or equipment.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Level 3/HNC in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing or production engineering.
  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes, equipment, and documentation.
Nationality Requirements

Candidates must be able to work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law and be prepared to undertake an appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting according to UK Government National Security Vetting criteria.
