Mechanical Design Engineer
Weymouth, Dorset | Hybrid
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000
Only applicants with the full‑time, permanent right to work in the UK will be considered.
OverviewDesign engineered systems from concept through to manufacture, integration and delivery. Produce 3D models, drawings, BOMs and technical documentation using Inventor. Work closely with project, supply chain and integration teams on live build activity. Support practical problem‑solving during manufacture, assembly and system integration.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities- Create and develop 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings
- Produce and maintain Bills of Materials, technical files and controlled design documentation
- Take designs through concept, detailed design, manufacture and final integration
- Support design analysis, validation and FEA activity where required
- Work closely with manufacturing and integration teams to resolve build issues
- Liaise with suppliers on technical requirements, RFQs and design clarification
- Support design for manufacture, assembly and integration across complex projects
- Contribute technical input to bids, tenders and project delivery activity
- Work with electrical, HVAC and wider engineering teams on multi‑discipline design packages
- Ensure designs are practical, compliant and suitable for production and deployment
- Mechanical Engineering degree or similar technical qualification
- About 3+ years’ experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role
- Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally Autodesk Inventor
- Experience taking designs through to manufacture, assembly or delivery
- Able to produce clear engineering drawings, BOMs and technical documentation
- Comfortable working with production, suppliers and wider engineering teams
- Practical engineering mindset with a focus on buildable, workable solutions
- Eligible for, or able to obtain, UK security clearance
- AutoCAD experience
- FEA or structural analysis exposure
- Knowledge of relevant BS and ISO standards
- Experience with supplier liaison, RFQs and outsourced manufacturing
- Systems engineering or multi‑disciplinary integration experience
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, HVAC or containerised system design
- Experience supporting international or remote‑site project delivery
