Healthcare Administration, Medical Receptionist
The Bridges Medical Practice is looking for a new Receptionist for 31.5 hours per week. The position will be across both The Bridges Medical Centre and Littlemoor Surgery. Hours vary between 8am and 7:30pm.
We are a large, busy practice with a multi disciplinary team. We are hardworking, friendly and strive to do the best for our patients.
On the job training will be given. The position is subject to satisfactory references and DBS check.
Main duties of the jobCandidates should have good customer service and communication skills, be flexible and willing to learn. IT experience is preferred. Adhering to confidentiality is essential.
Responsibilities Include:
- Receiving and routingpatients.
- Answering queries, giving test results, making appointments.
- Answering the phoneand ensuring enquiries are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
Forwarding calls and taking messages. - Receiving requests forhome visits.
- Issuing repeat prescriptions.
- Registering temporary patients.
- Checking and stocking consulting rooms.
- Actioning emails.
- Inputtingupdates of patient details on computerised records.
- Advisepatients of relevant charges for private services, accept payments andissue receipts.
- Act asa chaperone when requested by a clinician (after training has been completed).
We are a large friendly team comprising of GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nursing team and Physios. We have a variety of admin staff who are equally crucial to patient care and running the practice. We also house staff from other organisations.
We provide many different services to patients and are constantly improving how we work.

Job responsibilitiesJOB SUMMARY
To ensure patients are dealt with in an efficient and polite manner, liaising with other members of staff when needed.
Main Responsibilities
- Opening the premises and checking heating, lighting and ventilation.
- Ensuring IT and telephonesare ready each morning and ensuring the self check-in is working.
- Ensure the waiting areasare tidy and all necessary preparations have been made to receivepatients.
- Receiving and routingpatients on arrival.
- Answering generalqueries, giving test results, making new and follow-up appointments.
- Answering the telephone and ensuring all enquiries are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
Forwarding calls to other departments and taking messages as appropriate. - Receiving requests forhome visits, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary referring to the Duty Doctor.
- Issuing repeat prescription requests in a timely manner.
- Registerin temporary residents.
- Managing deliveries; ensuring items for cold storage are dealt with promptly
- Ensuring outgoing mailfrom all departments is posted promptly.
- Dealing with tasks sent internally and externally.
- Checkingconsulting rooms after surgery and making the room ready for the nextclinician.
- Retrieveand re-file paper records as required.
- Inputtingupdates of patient details on computerised medical records, includingchanges of name/address/consent/next of kin etc.
- Advisepatients of relevant charges for private services, accept payments andissue receipts.
- Ensuring the reception area is left tidy and ready for use by incoming colleagues,and that they are provided with information about any unresolved or urgentmatters.
- Whenlast to leave at the end of the day, ensuring the building is totally secured and alarm activated.
- Act asa chaperone when requested by a clinician (after training has been completed).
- Experience of working in a public facing role
- Experience of working in primary care or other healthcare setting
- Ability to strictly adhere to confidentiality
- Flexible and adaptable
- Ability to work well in a team
- Willingness to learn
- Knowledge of Systm One IT system
- GCSE grade A to C (or equivalent) in English, Maths and IT
