Job Description & How to Apply Below
We're looking for a Unity Developer to join our simulation team at Excel Driver Services. You'll contribute to a commercial vehicle training simulation platform running on multi-display simulators and integrated with our learning management system. The majority of this role is focused on backend and application systems: data, networking, and services. You'll also contribute across the application in areas such as UI, tooling, and scenario development.
This is a hands-on, in-person role where you'll collaborate daily with a tight-knit dev team shipping training technology to real customers.
- Build and maintain backend and application systems in Unity, including session management, scenario logic, data persistence, and networked features
- Support multiplayer and instance synchronization across simulators
- Consume and contribute to APIs connecting the simulation to our web platform and cloud services
- Contribute across the Unity application as needed, including UI, editor tooling, scenario scripting, and bug fixing
- Write clean, maintainable C# that conforms to the existing architecture
- Collaborate with the rendering and physics developers to integrate their systems into the application
- Participate in team meetings, sprint planning, and code reviews
- Contribute to documentation and help establish engineering standards for the platform
- C# programming, with a solid grasp of OOP, collections, and async/await
- Unity fundamentals:
Mono Behaviours, Scriptable Objects, scene management, and the Unity lifecycle - Experience building at least one complete project in Unity (personal, academic, or professional)
- Basic understanding of REST APIs and JSON
- Version control experience (Git or Plastic SCM) and the ability to adopt our branching and review workflow
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to the rest of the team
- .NET experience, such as ASP.NET Core, Web API, or Entity Framework
- Basic SQL and data modeling
- Exposure to multiplayer or networking in Unity (Netcode, Mirror, Photon, or similar)
- Familiarity with unit testing (NUnit, Unity Test Framework)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially AWS
- Someone with strong technical fundamentals and the discipline to build on them
- Able to move between backend logic, UI, and tooling work as project needs change
- Reads existing code and architecture before writing new systems
- Can articulate why a system works, not just that it does
- Reliable and accountable, with consistent effort and attitude in the workplace
- Works well both independently and within a team
- Background in simulation, learning management systems, or industrial software
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and multi-platform builds
- Experience with WebGL builds or browser-to-backend communication
- A portfolio, Git Hub profile, or shipped projects demonstrating your work
- An interest in the application of emerging AI technology
This is a full-time, in-person position. You'll be on-site with the team, working on real projects, and expected to take ownership of your work.
