EssentialJob Responsibilities
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community
- Helps to maintain a positive classroom environment, utilize appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline, and model positive behavior
- Maintains order with the students and complies with and assists in teachers’ methods of maintaining classroom discipline
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of concepts or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff
- Encourages students to function as a member of the group by involving other students in activities and encouraging independence and self‑help skills
- Circulates and monitors student work, and proctors assessments as assigned by the certified staff
- Assists students with lessons and assignments in a variety of classroom learning experiences, including classrooms led by homeroom teachers, content area teachers, LBS teachers, and specials teachers
- Adapts classroom activities to the capabilities of the student
- Implements age and developmentally appropriate activities
- Implements individual program
- Assists teachers and students with organizational needs in the classrooms
- Assists in maintaining individual student’s progress records for review and program planning
- Redirects parental questions or concerns to supervisors
- Participates in team meetings as warranted and communicates and shares ideas and concerns with supervisors
- Performs assigned supervision of students during before school, after school, lunch periods, play periods, hallways, and all other supervision needs
- Works as a member of the students’ team
- Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned
- Alerts the certified staff to any problems, concerns, or special information about an individual student
- Maintains a safe working environment
- Continues to improve expertise and job‑related skills and engages in professional development activities
- Receives the students from the bus, parent cars, and other forms of transportation and ensures that students are picked up after school
- Conducts prescribed therapeutic and exercise programs for physically exceptional students
- Participates in all facets of the program designed to develop language, independence, mobility, and self‑help skills of students
- Demonstrates proficiency of technology skills necessary to successfully carry out duties and assists individual students utilizing assistive technology to support instruction
- Attends to personal needs of students (feeding, toileting, clothing, general care, securing students in walkers or other equipment, moving or positioning students)
- Monitors students for health problems or issues when applicable
- Cleans and stores materials and equipment after use
- Some lifting of students, equipment, or materials may be required, not to exceed forty (40) pounds; lifting of over forty (40) pounds will require assistance of another adult
- Performs other duties or assignments as directed by supervisors
