Description:Perform functions to instruct identified students ensuring each individual is provided with the knowledge, proficiencies and experiences necessary for academic and social success in a bilingual classroom setting. This is a FTE 0.7 position. Must speak Spanish.
Responsibilities:- Schedule, plan and instruct students on District and state approved curriculum in self-contained classrooms and in small group settings.
- Provide systematic instruction by teaching the lessons in English or a designated second language as is appropriate to meet student needs.
- Interact with students by speaking fluently and precisely, modeling good language and vocabulary usage in both English and a designated second language.
- Conduct screenings to determine student eligibility in program. Review and interpret results.
- Set high expectations for students and hold students accountable for their academic work.
- Construct and conduct assessments to evaluate progress.
- Monitor and review student progress via assessments, maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth. Monitor own instructional effectiveness.
- Communicate both verbally and in writing with parents and students on progress. Encourage parent involvement in monitoring student progress.
- Collaborate with other grade level or departmental Teachers and support Teachers to plan, accommodate, implement and assess lessons and progress.
- Consult, provide advice and in-service to staff on issues relating to Bilingual education.
- Actively participate on various building and District teams or committees. Provide feedback and act as liaison to other building staff.
- Enforce and support school policies, philosophies and objectives with students and parents.
- Collaborate with other staff in planning, modifying, enhancing and implementing curriculum and school objectives.
- Participate in staff development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth. Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.
- Maintain accurate and current records required by state and federal requirements.
- Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment. Act as role model on appropriate behaviors ensuring social and emotional development is progressing normally.
- Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled work day such as orientation, open houses or conferences.
Travel between schools may be required.
