The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of urological services, performs routine administrative and clinical tasks, and is an effective member of the interdisciplinary team. The role collaborates with staff to achieve effective patient care delivery and desired outcomes.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities- Perform administrative and clinical duties under direct supervision.
- Coordinate and schedule patient appointments with physicians, nurses, and staff.
- Greet and prepare patients.
- Measure and record vital signs.
- Record patient interview, history, and chief complaint.
- Provide patient education regarding medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
- Prepare patients for examinations and perform routing screening tests.
- Assist physicians with exams.
- Perform phlebotomy and collect lab specimens; conduct basic lab tests.
- Perform EKGs.
- Assist with X‑ray and therapy procedures.
- Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
- Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform first‑aid procedures.
- Use CPR skills when necessary.
- Maintain accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
- Open office in the morning and close in the afternoon.
- Maintain patient logs for lab requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
- Maintain prescription ledger when needed.
- Ensure efficient back‑office flow and room turnover.
- Perform new‑patient thorough work‑up (x‑rays, vitals, new packet explanation).
- Add medical history for new patients and update established patient histories.
- Set up rooms for physicians.
- Ensure medication orders are current before physician visits.
- Set up in‑office surgical procedures.
- Complete consent forms correctly.
- Scribe as assigned.
- Prepare for tomorrow’s patient confirmations.
- Complete patient medical record requests.
- Assist in orientation and training of new personnel.
- Ensure proper hand‑off of responsibilities after task completion.
- Meet attendance criteria and start work promptly.
- Respect and acknowledge cultural diversity.
- Demonstrate good time and resource management.
- Adhere to HR and corporate policies and procedures.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of medical records.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and ethics.
- Support compliance and accreditation efforts (OSHA, HIPAA, CMS).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Certification or registration preferred.
- Perform well in stressful situations.
- Knowledge of healthcare systems such as EMR and practice management solutions.
- Work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
- Project management.

- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Exceptional patient service.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience (based on state regulation).
- Minimum 6 months experience in a physician’s office; urology experience desired.
- Minimal travel required.
Carrying weight up to 25–50 lbs, frequent patient repositioning, and occasional lifting; requires physical stamina.
