Salary range: $20.15 - $26.20 per hour. Placement within the range depends on experience, internal equity, and collective bargaining agreements where applicable.

Description

Two West is a 28‑bed unit specializing in rehabilitation of neuromuscular conditions and a wide variety of high‑acuity patients, including transplant, LVAD, wound/burn care, and oncology patients. The rehabilitation team includes physicians, resident physicians, nurses, therapists, and nursing assistants. The unit’s fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment is similar to that of a Medical Surgical Unit in a Rehabilitation Hospital setting.

The Rehab Nurse Tech (RNT) reflects NM’s mission, vision, and values and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards. Under the direction of a registered nurse, the RNT assists patients with activities of daily living, mobility, skin care, bowel and bladder programs, and de‑escalation techniques, as well as performing 12‑lead EKGs as ordered.

Responsibilities
  • Answer and triage patient call lights with appropriate urgency.
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living to promote independence.
  • Assist patients with application of assistive devices and prosthetics/orthoses according to individual programs.
  • Perform preventive skin care and report changes in skin integrity immediately.
  • Accurately calculate and document calorie intake, output, and patient weights.
  • Assist with transfers and mobility activities using proper techniques, precautions, and assistive devices.
  • Assist with bladder and bowel elimination programs, including specimen collection and straight catheterization under RN direction.
  • Accurately obtain and document vital signs; communicate concerns to the RN.
  • Measure and document blood glucose measurements.
  • Obtain 12‑lead EKGs as ordered.
  • Assist patients with menu completion and pass meals and snacks under RN direction.
  • Provide supervision and activities for patients at high fall risk.
  • Conduct patient rounding on the unit to monitor status.
  • Use de‑escalation techniques for agitated or aggressive patients.
  • Engage patients in appropriate activities.
  • Serve as unit mobility champion.
  • Maintain and organize unit equipment inventories.
  • Preceptor new employees.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by nurse manager, supervisor, staff nurse, and charge nurse.
Quality Improvement
  • Participate in system and local quality improvement goals.
  • Collect data and audit for Joint Commission readiness and improvement projects.
  • Assist in maintaining unit readiness to meet regulatory standards.
Communication
  • Maintain therapeutic relationships to provide customer‑focused care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients at appropriate levels, showing cultural sensitivity.
  • Interact positively with peers and other staff to foster working relationships.
  • Effectively triage patient and general concerns to RN.
Infection Control / Patient Safety
  • Contribute to safe, effective, professional patient care using safety or restrictive devices.
  • Follow infection control policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of Marianjoy’s policies concerning precautions, codes, conditions, warnings, and general safety procedures.
Adaptability and Flexibility
  • Rotate to all units based on patient care needs.
  • Adjust to changes in policy and procedure, unit, and patient population.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current Nursing Assistant certification (C.N.A.) or current enrollment in an RN program with successful completion of two clinical rotations.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to high‑level customer service.
