We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as a Laborer for DuPage County's Division of Transportation. This position supports the Fleet Maintenance Department.
THIS POSITION IS ASSIGNED TO THE IUOE - LOCAL 150 DIVISION OF TRANSPORTATION BARGAINING UNIT.
This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements of the United States Department of Transportation - Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.

Employees in this role receive 1 hour per day of on-call pay for November 1 st through March 31 st (on-call pay will only apply once a CDL is obtained).

Responsibilities- Maintain and repair a variety of small engine equipment such as string trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, and generators
- Equipment check in and out, tracking and damage assessment
- Uses hand tools, cleans, sweeps, performs basic maintenance tasks (e.g. replaces light bulbs, cleans, oils, and greases equipment, etc.) and other custodial tasks as assigned
- Assists higher level fleet maintenance staff with minor vehicle and equipment repairs
- Tracking and updating inventory, receive deliveries, and retrieve parts, restock supplies
- Pick up and drop off vehicles, equipment, and parts
- Operates a pickup truck, forklift, bobcat, etc.
- Operates a tandem axle snowplow and will be on-call for snow and ice operations
- Other shop related tasks as assigned
- Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
- A valid Illinois Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain a CDL within six (6) months of hire (assistance provided by the Division of Transportation)
- Previous experience in small engine repair and maintenance
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
A post offer physical is required.

Physical RequirementsHeavy Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Use of arm and /or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than for medium work.
The work environment for this position frequently includes working near moving mechanical parts, in high or precarious places, in extreme outside weather conditions, with hazardous materials, with fumes or airborne particles, with the risk of electric shock, and in cramped or confined spaces. Employees in this class are required to be on call for emergency situations and seasonal snow removal, which means being capable of working in excess of forty (40) hours per week.
