Responsibilities
  • The position has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the nursing process. The incumbent accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge and skills, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes.
  • Provide professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Demonstrate the ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and develop a plan of care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnoses, interventions, and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Demonstrate safety and continuity of care using documentation and handoff tools/processes.
  • Incorporate patient individuality, mutuality data, and education tailored to learning needs; utilize teach-back to evaluate education effectiveness.
  • Utilize Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) in nursing care and participate in a patient-centered care model.
  • Document problems and issues in the plan of care and collaborate with interprofessional team; grow in ability to care for more complex patients through consultation with experienced colleagues.
  • Maintain accountability for delegated nursing care and recognize scope of practice for all team members.
  • Engage in culturally sensitive data collection and consider family dynamics in health and wellness.
  • Apply the American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics to nursing practice and identify discriminatory health care practices in diverse populations.
  • Individualize care based on beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn of patients.
Qualifications
  • Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, or current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 60 days of hire; licenses must be obtained before the expiration date of the temporary permit unless not possible due to circumstances such as pandemic-related NCLEX testing center closures.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Experience:

    Less than 12 months of nursing experience.
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure

Special Requirements
  • For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements, complete annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards (CBLs, trainings, in-services, and competency validation).
Physical Requirements
  • Minimize manual patient lifting; transfers and repositioning use lift equipment and patient handling aids as indicated.
  • Heavy/Hard work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying 40+ lbs.
  • Visual acuity within normal range; hearing within normal range for assessment tasks.
Working Environment
  • Working protracted or irregular hours; around biohazards and infectious diseases; near the deceased.
  • Working with hands in water and with electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Clinical practice and critical thinking to deliver patient care efficiently with the health care team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in work volume, staffing, and scheduling; ability to perform under stress.
