Grow Ohio Valley Backyard Gardener Ameri Corps

Grow Ohio Valley is serving our community by fostering a local food system. We improve access to local, healthy food through operating four urban farm sites where we grow produce and practice regenerative and sustainable agriculture. Produce grown at these sites are distributed to areas with limited access to fresh foods. Complementary education programming teaches community members of all ages gardening skills, how to prepare healthy meals, and the importance of eating fresh produce.

Members will improve social justice by joining Grow Ohio Valley's efforts to improve local food systems in Wheeling and the surrounding Ohio Valley region. We’re looking for passionate candidates to help promote sustainable agriculture, proper nutrition, and equitable distribution of fresh foods in our community. Recruitment is continuous as we have rolling start dates and offer multiple term lengths.

• Coordinate the Backyard Gardener program with the Education Manager.
• Communicate and coordinate with Backyard Gardener participants.
• Start and tend to transplants to be distributed in the greenhouse.
• Prepare supplies for distribution and workshops.
• Ensure program requirements are being met, such as collecting and organizing harvest data.
• Prepare and deliver monthly educational workshops.
