Wheeling Hospital's Critical Care and Trauma Institute is seeking a Nurse Practitioner – Trauma Services!
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and lead comprehensive management of trauma medicine patients, including biological, social, and psychological assessments.Possess specialized skills in the care of patients and families undergoing operative and other invasive procedures.Coordinate involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams to develop a comprehensive patient care plan and review it with the clinical team.Participate in directing care and ensuring adherence to protocol requirements and regulatory guidelines.Perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and coordinate discharge planning to the next level of care.Participate in the education of residents and medical/nursing students.Respond to rapid response alerts and assess/initiates care for the critically ill patient upon activation.Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and professional licensing or certification requirements.Manage comprehensive and individualized care for patients and families in the inpatient/critical care phase of hospitalization.Order additional tests or consults as needed for preoperative/pre-procedure workup.Perform, interpret, and communicate results of common diagnostic tests.Consult and communicate with critical care and surgical services regarding abnormal findings.Develop a comprehensive individualized plan of care, including teaching, discharge planning, and referral to other health care team members.Participate in physician/team rounds.Identify unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitate appropriate intervention with resources.Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care.Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision‑making.Utilize basic equipment safely.Facilitate patient discharge/transfer by coordinating appropriate services.Base decisions on relevant scientific principles, standards of care, and/or research findings.Promote an environment that facilitates learning by responding to patient/family preferences and readiness to learn.Continuously update own knowledge base throughout the year.Complete all identified clinical competencies.Mentor nursing personnel at all levels of clinical practice.Communicate effectively with patients/families, physicians, and ancillary services to ensure coordinated efficient patient care.Document the plan of care, interventions, and evaluations clearly and concisely.Adhere to the established Performance Expectations for WVU-UHA Employees.Perform initial assessment and develop plan for new admissions alongside the critical care attending physician.Ensure patient summary (i.e. Problem List) and orders are current.Ensure appropriate transition to the next team when the patient is ready to leave the ICU.Perform appropriate procedures as directed by the Critical Care Team within scope of practice.Qualifications:Graduate from a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing.National certification by a recognized APRN certification center.Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.American Heart Association BLS certification required; additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).FNP ACGNP certification or ACNP required; alternatively, an FNP willing to complete either certification within the first full credentialing cycle will be considered.Eligible new graduates will be considered.Acute care, critical care experience preferred.Physical Requirements:Heavy/Hard work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning of patients, standing, walking, moving of patients and equipment weighing 40+ pounds.
