HDR has an excellent career opportunity in our NY/NJ Area for a professional to lead the development and growth of our Water Resource Management (WRM) Sector. The NY/NJ WRM MSL is passionate about protecting water quality and the environment and is well‑versed in the "One Water" concept and the synergies among stormwater, wastewater, recycled water, drinking water, and environmental markets.
In this role you will work with local and national leadership to set the vision and strategy to expand and provide research, planning, design and engineering services to clients in the water resources market sector and relevant research organizations.
Primary Responsibilities- Advance business development strategies and pursue new clients and projects.
- Manage client relationships and serve as client manager for key clients.
- Lead selected key pursuits and provide technical input on projects.
- Coordinate staffing, resourcing and workload for projects.
- Develop and drive a long‑range vision and strategy for HDR’s NY/NJ Water Resources Market Sector disciplines.
- Identify, develop and promote Water Resources initiatives to the marketplace.
- Collaborate with other technical and marketing staff in the pursuit of new projects and lead selected key pursuits.
- Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts.
- Lead HDR’s Water Resources branding in the NY/NJ area through professional engagement.
- Develop relationships with industry counterparts in other consulting organizations and with senior leadership in key client organizations.
- Coordinate staffing/recruiting plans for key hires and support talent management.
- Identify technical gaps and assist with recruiting.
- Manage and develop multidisciplinary teams.
- Supervise senior engineers, Business Class Leaders and mentor staff.
- Support project staffing and resource decisions, workload, and MS utilization.
- Coordinate Market Sector services with Business Class Leaders and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate on business class initiatives and project delivery staff efforts.
- Participate in delivery of project services through planning, design and construction phases.
- Serve as Principal in Charge, Project Director, Project Manager, Technical Lead, or Quality Manager on projects.
- Lead the development of scopes of work, fee estimates, project risk identification and schedules.
- Assist with contract review on key projects for risk management and quality assurance.
- Ensure integration of best technology and solutions into project delivery.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews and support continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.
- Existing Municipal, State and Federal relationships to drive growth.
- 10+ years of water resources leadership experience including staff supervisory experience.
- Professional Engineer licensed in NY, NJ, or ability to obtain license via reciprocity.
- Preference given to local candidates.
- Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, planning or a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
- Experience in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
- Experience in development and management of a wide range of client relationships and specific program and/or project pursuits.
- Experience in overall staff development, including recruiting, career path and professional growth.
- Experience with industry associations and a visible profile in the market sector.
- Ability to work cooperatively with regional and area market sector directors and managers.
