Role DescriptionArcadis is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer, with 5‑10 years of experience, to join our Water Division on a NYCHA construction project in the Bronx, NY. The role involves supporting the Resident Engineer in managing construction oversight of a major infrastructure upgrade.
Role Accountabilities- Manage day‑to‑day construction oversight under the Resident Engineer on a major NYCHA infrastructure upgrade contract.
- Assist the Resident Engineer with daily inspections and prepare daily inspector reports in accordance with client requirements.
- Liaise with design staff to respond to contractor RFIs and review shop drawings.
- Liaise with NYCHA staff to address owner comments and concerns.
- Perform field office services including record keeping, correspondence, and drafting required reports.
- Provide technical review of construction plans, specifications, and project changes for constructability and practicality.
- Assist in managing site safety and permit‑condition compliance.
- Monitor contractor performance, schedule, responsiveness, and overall effectiveness.
- Influence contractors to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, and quality.
- Support review, preparation, negotiation, and processing of contractor payments and change orders.
- Assist in leading meetings, preparing agendas and minutes.
- Manage subcontractors for special inspections, commissioning, and asbestos monitoring.
- Effectively communicate progress, safety, scheduling, and other contract administration matters with clients, local agencies and the community.
- Assist in closeout of the construction contract, including preparing all closeout documents and required reports.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support project objectives.

Qualifications & ExperienceRequired Qualifications
- 5 years prior experience as an Office Engineer, Inspector, or Assistant Resident Engineer for NYC projects.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or a related field.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- 10 years’ experience with at least 5 years of Assistant Resident Engineering, inspector, or office engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer – New York (active).
- Boiler or mechanical project experience.
- Active participation in regional or national professional associations.
- Interest and ability to network, support proposals, and contribute to the firm’s growth in the NYC construction market.

Salary range: $115,000 – $165,000. Actual salaries will vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
