Position Summary

In collaboration with the Technical Director, the Manager will assist in supervising and coordinating the activities of all therapists across shifts to promote and develop standards of care for Respiratory Therapy practices. The Manager will also provide support to the Medical Director related to departmental responsibilities. In the absence of the Technical Director, the Clinical Operations Manager will oversee the operations of the Respiratory Therapy department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Understands and adheres to WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  • Monitors state and federal regulations and those of other regulatory and accrediting agencies pertaining to departmental functions.
  • Serves as a role model to staff.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of patient- and family-centered, evidence-based care models that encourage professional practice and result in high quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Is responsible for performance management of employees based on standards of practice and care, as well as Respiratory Care Services and WPH policies and procedures.
  • Interacts with staff in a consistent, fair, timely, appropriate, and decisive manner.
  • Plans and conducts formal performance reviews that are timely, ongoing, and objective and submits necessary documentation in a timely manner.
  • Actively participates in self-professional development using internal or external resources.
  • Promotes growth and development of staff by identifying strengths and opportunities, setting goals, and providing opportunities for learning and coaching.
  • Maintains credibility and visibility with the respiratory care team and other members of the care team.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of protocols, policies, procedures, and standard of care guidelines.
  • In collaboration with the Technical Director, develops, reviews, and revises clinical and technical competencies.
  • Is expected to be present during all regulatory inspections, which may require flexibility with scheduling.
  • Collaborates with the Technical Director to develop quality indicators for measuring clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to analyze clinical practice and identify opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Collaborates with the Technical Director to design and support a system that facilitates staff involvement.
  • Collaborates with the Technical Director to interview and make hiring recommendations.
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge by acting as a clinical resource and role model to staff and other departments.
  • Identifies and collaborates with department leaders to establish clinical learning opportunities for students and staff.
  • Collaborates with the RT Educator and Technical Director to oversee the education and orientation processes for Respiratory Care employees.
  • Manages time and attendance of all employees using the Kronos time‑keeping system.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program approved for Respiratory Therapy.
  • Master’s Degree strongly preferred.
  • Current and valid New York State Respiratory Therapy license.
  • Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association) required.
  • ACLS, NRP, and PALS certification (American Heart Association) required or to be obtained within 3 months of hire.
  • Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (NPS) Credential preferred.
  • CPFT preferred.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of management skills.
  • Previous management/leadership experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent acute care respiratory therapy experience.
  • Member of the American Association of Respiratory Care.

Physical / Mental Demands / Requirements & Work Environment
  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary for required tasks; hazardous chemicals are listed in the hospital’s SDS database and may be accessed via the hospital’s intranet site.
  • Must have the ability to transport and lift heavy medical gas cylinders.

Salary Range: $95,373.135 – $ (based on FT employment)
