Overview
Anatomic Pathology Operations Manager at White Plains Hospital is responsible for coordinating and reviewing all activities of the histology, cytology, and MOHS laboratories to achieve maximum quality of testing and compliance with regulatory requirements. The manager oversees the Pathology Office Manager, Pathology Supervisor, and Chief Cytotechnologist.
Responsibilities- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Assure the delivery of quality department/clinical services in accordance with established hospital and regulatory/accreditation agency standards.
- Ensure employee compliance with hospital and Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Ensure staff competency and education requirements are satisfied as per hospital policy.
- Participate in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization when required.
- Attend Management/Leadership meetings as scheduled and communicate hospital policies, performance improvement initiatives and all other required information for staff.
- Participate in committees, task forces and projects as appropriate.
- Provide a safe employee/patient environment.
- Maintain knowledge related to the department’s operations.
- Collaborate with all levels of the hospital interdisciplinary team and promote the team concept within the department and hospital-wide.
- Demonstrate positive customer service and foster positive employee relations; ensure staff adhere to Customer Service Behavioral Standards.
- Support hospital initiatives and projects and function as a positive change agent.
- Promote a positive, professional image; act as a role model, coach, mentor and resource for staff and peers.
- Direct and supervise tests performed by scientists, cytotechnologists, Pathology Supervisor, Chief Cytotechnologist(s), Histotechnologists, and Laboratory Assistants.
- Train and assist laboratory supervisor staff.
- Oversee and assist with the Quality Control Program and prepare monthly Quality Control reports for section meetings.
- Prepare section payroll and time sheets as required.
- Stay current with accrediting agencies’ regulatory standards to maintain compliance.
- Document test implementation and training for staff.
- Maintain effective communication within and outside the Laboratory Department.
- Participate in development of laboratory/computer software utilization, including instrument interfacing, tests, worksheets, and report formatting.
- Maintain relationships with vendors to resolve issues.
- Monitor turn-around times for applicable assays.
- Perform duties of Sectional Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors as needed.
- Develop, submit departmental goals, objectives, and budgets for operations and capital equipment as required by the Senior Director and Medical Director.
- Interview, hire, evaluate, and counsel employees per hospital policy.
- Ensure completion of staff orientation, annual and ongoing competency and education requirements.
- Attend and participate in educational programs or activities to maintain current knowledge or expertise to manage the department.
- Communicate information using multiple methodologies.
- Adhere to safety standards for employees and patients.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- BS Degree in Clinical Technology or related science with six years of relevant hospital experience.
- Current NYS License as Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist, or Pathologists’ Assistant required.
- ASCP Certification preferred.
