What We Do

The First American Law Group, a Division of First American Title Insurance Company, is searching for an experienced New York litigation attorney to represent insured owners and lenders in resolving real estate title issues.

The First American Law Group provides a unique opportunity to practice law without the burdens of private practice. Law Group Counsel do not have a billable hour requirement, do not track their daily time, and are not required to generate a book of business.

The right candidate is an excellent problem solver, negotiator, litigator, and team player that can work independently. Law Group Counsel manage their own caseload in a collegial environment with a resolution‑centric focus.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent insured owners and lenders in resolving a wide range of real‑estate title issues, including defective or fraudulent deeds and mortgages, lien priority disputes, boundary disputes, lack of legal access, missing interests, competing chains of title, and encroachments
  • Manage an assigned caseload from the initial investigation to a final litigated resolution, including examining title, developing resolution and litigation strategies, drafting and obtaining curative documents, negotiating pre‑suit settlements, and prosecuting or defending litigation through trial and appeal

Qualifications:

  • A seasoned litigator with a minimum of 5 years of real‑estate litigation experience, including depositions, mediations, trials, and appeals. Experience with title insurance defense and the tripartite relationship is highly desirable
  • Ability to think outside the box and find creative resolutions
  • Strong critical thinking, decision making, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • Member of the New York State Bar; and admission to the New Jersey State Bar a plus

Pay Range: $ - $ Annually. This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
