The NP provides primary care services including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating and educating patients. This is an exempt position that maintains standards of nursing practice and contributes to the hospital's mission and performance measures.

Responsibilities
  • Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors
  • Performs health assessments including patient history and physical examination
  • Performs diagnostic procedures according to privileges
  • Performs preventive screening according to age and history
  • Orders diagnostic tests; evaluates results and incorporates them into the care plan
  • Formulates appropriate diagnoses based on history, physical examination and findings
  • Plans and provides care within policies, procedures, privileges and resources, applying relevant research
  • Involves the patient/family in planning care
  • Coordinates care of patients in collaboration with physicians and other providers; evaluates and adjusts the plan toward health goals
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies according to privileges
  • Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures/tests within privileging scope
  • Provides patient/family education related to health status
  • Evaluates effectiveness of the plan of care and interventions
  • Collaborates and communicates with all members of the health care team
  • Documents thoroughly and timely
  • Participates in education of health care professionals and students (mentoring, precepting, in-services, seminars, presentations)
  • Engages in professional activities to advance nursing practice
  • Develops clinical knowledge and skills through continuing education and literature
  • Participates in performance evaluation and self-development planning
  • Adheres to standards of care and practice as established by White Plains Hospital Center
  • Complies with the Ethical Code for Nurses and the New York State Nurse Practice Act
  • Maintains NP specialty certification with NYS and certifying bodies
  • Incorporates guidelines from state and national regulatory bodies and professional organizations
  • Demonstrates stress management, problem solving, and professional role modeling
  • Uses time effectively for special projects and quality improvement
  • Participates in reviews of records/plans for peer review, outcome monitoring and quality improvement
  • Supports research by defining questions and participating in research in the practice setting as indicated
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Education & Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school
  • Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • Current NYS license as a Nurse Practitioner
  • National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Maintains a current collaborative practice agreement
  • BCLS certification; ACLS certification preferred
  • Minimum two years’ experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification (only required if working in the Infusion Center)

Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment

May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Hazardous chemicals are listed in the hospital SDS database and may be accessed via the Intranet or switchboard.
