Position: Full-Time Nursing Faculty
Location: City of White Plains

The College of Westchester (CW) is seeking an experienced, student-centered nursing educator to join the faculty of our new Practical Nursing (LPN) Certificate Program.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a new nursing program and help prepare future Licensed Practical Nurses through high-quality classroom and skills-based nursing education.

Position Overview

The Full-Time Nursing Faculty member will have primary responsibility for didactic nursing instruction and on-campus nursing skills laboratory instruction. The position combines teaching with student support, curriculum development, assessment, and participation in the continued development of CW's Practical Nursing program.

Teaching Responsibilities

The normal full-time teaching assignment will be approximately four courses per semester, with specific assignments determined by program needs, course scheduling, and the faculty member's areas of expertise.

Teaching responsibilities may include:

  • Didactic/lecture instruction in Practical Nursing courses
  • Nursing skills laboratory instruction
  • Development and delivery of course materials and learning activities
  • Student evaluation, grading, and competency assessment
  • Maintenance of course materials within CW's Brightspace learning management system
  • Collaboration with clinical faculty to ensure alignment between classroom instruction and students' clinical experiences

Full-time nursing faculty will focus primarily on on-campus didactic and skills instruction. Dedicated adjunct clinical instructors will supervise students during off-site clinical rotations. This structure allows full-time faculty to devote appropriate time to preparation, grading, student support, assessment, and other faculty responsibilities. CW previously established this division of responsibilities in its nursing faculty workload model submitted during development of the LPN program.

Additional

Faculty Responsibilities

Full-time nursing faculty will also:

  • Maintain scheduled office hours and provide individualized academic support and remediation.
  • Identify and support students who may benefit from additional academic assistance.
  • Participate in curriculum development, course review, and continuous program improvement.
  • Participate in student learning outcomes and program assessment.
  • Maintain appropriate student academic and competency records.
  • Participate in nursing faculty and program meetings.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain current professional nursing knowledge.
  • Contribute to institutional and department committees and shared governance activities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, nursing faculty, clinical instructors, and other members of the School of Health Professions.

CW's existing workload model specifically provides faculty time for course preparation, office hours and student support, grading and competency tracking, program assessment, professional development, and institutional governance in addition to teaching.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Current, unencumbered New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license and registration
  • Professional nursing/clinical experience
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to student success and working with diverse learners
Preferred:
  • Previous nursing education experience
  • Experience teaching Practical Nursing or other pre-licensure nursing students
  • Experience with nursing skills laboratories and/or simulation
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and instructional technology
Schedule

This is a full-time faculty position. Teaching assignments will be scheduled according to program needs and may include day and/or evening classes Monday through Thursday.

The normal teaching assignment is approximately four courses per semester, with the remainder of the faculty member's responsibilities devoted to course preparation, grading, student support, assessment, professional development, and service to the program and College.
