PositionSummary
At the direction of the Administrative Director of Security or Assistant Director of Security, the Security Sergeant supervises security personnel, ensuring proper and timely completion of all post and other task assignments. The Security Sergeant identifies security personnel concerns and incidents to the Administrative Director of Security or Assistant Director of Security. The Security Sergeant is responsible for the appropriate and authorized use of all Security Department equipment including radios, cameras, hospital vehicles, etc.
EssentialFunctions & Responsibilities
- Patrols all posts and responds to calls from subordinates in situations demanding the attention of supervisory personnel.
- Observes and assumes responsibility for the actions of Security personnel during his/her tour of duty.
- Determines and assigns a Security Officer to each incident requiring attention and ensures proper investigation and reporting. Reviews all security reports prior to the end of their tour.
- Carries out all orders and/or directives from the Administrator and Assistant Director of Security and assumes complete responsibility for the security and safety of the Hospital, its employees, patients and visitors during the absence of the Director of Security.
- Advises the Assistant Director of Security of all arrests or unusual incidents that occur.
- Carries out instructions set forth in fire, bomb and disaster manuals until arrival of the Assistant Director of Security.
- Polices buildings, grounds, examines doors and windows; restrains patients who become violent; assists in visitor control; makes periodic checks of packages as directed.
- Performs other additional duties as per competent authority.
- Familiar with hospital policies and procedures and demonstrates an understanding of the responsibilities of the position.
- Ensures all security officers sign in the rollcall at the start of their shift and sign out at the end of their shift in their own handwriting to ensure accountability; inspects the roll call.
- Prepares and conducts daily rollcalls for assigned tour.
- Monitors all radio transmissions during assigned tour.
High school graduate or equivalent plus one year of military experience preferred. Must have and maintain New York State licensing requirement. Valid driver’s license required. BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be completed within 90 days of hire. De‑escalation training and restraint training must be completed within the probationary period.

Salary range: $51,970.23 – $77,955.54
