Position Overview

The Terrain Park Crew’s primary responsibility is the operation of and the daily maintenance of the WMR Terrain Parks. Responsibilities include shaping and maintaining snow features, inspecting and repairing park elements like rails, boxes, and jumps, and ensuring the park is fun, functional, and safe for all users. This position involves both physical labor outdoors and coordination with various mountain departments.

A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a passion for freestyle terrain are essential.

The Terrain Park is a part of the recreation and events department in Mountain Operations. Most of the work is conducted outdoors in the on-mountain arena. Some work will be conducted in the Events Department Office located in the Mountain Operations Building.

    None
  • Interrelationships:
    Works closely with grooming, events crew and supervisor, freestyle team, ski patrol, and mountain guests.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior ski industry experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with terrain park operations and feature construction.
  • Strong skiing or snowboarding ability in freestyle terrain is required.
  • Experience with snowmobiles or other motorized snow equipment is a plus.
  • Guest service or resort experience preferred.
  • CPR or First Aid certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Whitefish Mountain Resort and the Flathead Valley is helpful.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Outdoor, physically demanding position requiring the ability to lift 25–50 lbs repeatedly, often in awkward positions.
  • Must be able to sustain heavy physical exertion, up to 6 to 10 hours daily.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, grasping, and extended skiing/snowboarding required.
  • Must be able to ski or ride with loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Work may be required in extreme weather conditions including snow, wind, and low visibility.
  • Weekend, holiday, and overtime shifts are expected during busy operational periods.
  • Walking required between parking areas, lodges, and work zones in winter conditions.
  • Non-smoking environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily setup, inspection, and maintenance of terrain park features (raking, shoveling, signage, fencing, etc.).
  • Visually and physically inspect features for safety; close and report unsafe features as needed.
  • Maintain detailed logs and records of feature maintenance, opening reports, and daily park conditions.
  • Educate guests on terrain park safety and etiquette while promoting a positive experience.
  • Assist ski patrol with on-hill incidents and follow emergency protocols as needed.
  • Participate in early morning feature builds and help support park events in coordination with the Events Crew.
  • Ski or snowboard confidently while carrying equipment or tools in variable conditions.
  • Represent WMR professionally through appearance, punctuality, language, and guest interactions.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and operate within personal physical limits and abilities.
  • Support other departments as needed and contribute to a cohesive on-mountain team.
  • Set a good example for all ages and ability levels. Be courteous to guests at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
