Bank Dentist – Out of Hours Emergency Dental Service

NCIC Special Care and Community Dental Service is recruiting additional local dental practitioners to join the Out of Hours Emergency Dental Service at Carlisle Dental Centre and/or West Cumberland Hospital.
Patients are triaged by trained dental care professionals and NHS
111, then booked into clinic slots for emergency and urgent care. Clinics operate during four‑hour sessions:
- Carlisle Dental Centre – weekdays 1800‑2200, weekends & bank holidays 0900‑1300, 1330‑1730 and 1800‑2200.
- West Cumberland Hospital – Fridays 1800‑2200, weekends & bank holidays 0900‑1300, 1330‑1730 and 1800‑2200.
Provide emergency and urgent dental care identified through the triage process, working as part of a small clinical team at either location. Operate beyond normal hours only in exceptional circumstances to ensure patient safety.
Person Specification Qualifications- BDS or equivalent
- Dental Foundation Training completed (or equivalence achieved)
- NHS England Performer List registration
- Registration with General Dental Council (Dentist) with no conditions or restrictions
- Having worked 'unsupervised' as a dentist for a minimum of two years within NHS Primary Care dentistry
- Previous experience working in emergency dental service
- Experience of dealing with confidential and sensitive material
- Basic Life Support
- Compliant with training in core CPD determined by GDC
- Compliant with training in Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice
- Knowledge of SDCEP and FGDP(UK) guidance around prescribing in dental practice
- Legislative framework governing the delivery of oral health care in England
- Structure of local NHS Dental services
- Knowledge of legislation and guidance around process of consent
- Proven experience and competence in routine minor oral surgery
- Training in the identification, management and treatment of urgent and emergency dental care clinical presentations
- Knowledge of SOE dental software
- Good interpersonal skills with citable examples of working as part of a wider dental team
- Empathy and understanding towards patients and other staff members
- Ability to organise own workload and manage priorities
- Expertise in a range of clinical dentistry
- Willingness to work with a variety of different patient groups
- Compliance with NHS Policy on Smoking
- Current driving licence
- Act in a way that supports equality and values diversity
