Job Description
Join our established and expanding Nuclear team as a Principal Civil Engineer, leading multidisciplinary projects across the UK and overseas. This role provides technical leadership across the entire project lifecycle, from early client consultancy and feasibility studies through to full turn‑key solutions and delivery.
Your responsibilities include guiding design delivery, engaging clients, supporting bids and proposals, and influencing project outcomes through strong technical and commercial awareness.
Responsibilities- Lead delivery of nuclear design work for public and private sector clients in the UK and overseas.
- Prepare, review, and provide technical assurance of detailed civil engineering designs.
- Provide strategic technical leadership across integrated multi‑disciplinary teams delivering high‑profile projects.
- Support client engagement, bid preparation and development of technical proposals.
- Oversee project delivery to ensure programme, quality, safety, and client expectations are achieved.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to technicians, graduates, and developing engineers.
We are looking for someone with strong professional engineering judgement, specialist civil engineering knowledge, and experience in regulated, quality‑assured environments, ideally in the nuclear sector, including new‑build and decommissioning projects.
- Expertise in one or more specialist civil engineering disciplines with a track record of successful application.
- Ability to provide strategic guidance across projects and programmes.
- Leadership in a key engineering area and custodianship of resources and expertise.
- Experience in the nuclear sector, new build or decommissioning, requiring professional engineering expertise and judgement.
- Record of successful delivery influencing professional engineers in definition, implementation and delivery of civil engineering work.
- Mentorship and direction of technicians, graduates and near‑Chartered team members.
- Understanding of design principles and ability to apply them.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Able to meet UK security clearance requirements.
- Civil / Structural Engineering degree, or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent (e.g., MICE).
