The Urology directorate at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking for enthusiastic registered nurses or practitioners to support the Urological service. The service currently offers Monday – Friday outpatient appointments for patients requiring diagnostic or therapeutic interventions for a variety of urological conditions at West Cumberland Hospital and Cumberland Infirmary.
Our current service delivery includes urodynamic assessments, diagnostic flexible cystoscopy lists, trial without catheter clinics, prostate biopsy clinics, lithotripsy treatment for renal stones, complex catheter clinics, and more. This role provides the opportunity to work within a dedicated team and contribute to the development of urology care through new facilities within the UIU.
Main duties of the jobThe registered nurse within the Urology Investigations Unit / OPD department will be responsible for specialist knowledge and efficient running of day‑to‑day urology outpatient activities.
- Be responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of specific urology care, treatments and diagnostics.
- Be an integral member of the Urology team delivering nursing care within the Urology specialty.
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of staff and students through specialist advice and training.
- Registered Nurse Level 1 or Equivalent ODP
- Venepuncture competency
- Awareness of the requirements of the post and continued learning.
- Adherence to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- IT knowledge & skills.
- Surgical experience and extended urology skills.
- Previous experience working with patients with urological conditions (both acute and chronic).
- Experience in surgical care.
- Ability to work as a team member, with minimal supervision.
- Good organisational skills and initiative.
- Effective communication with colleagues and the public.
- Willingness to develop by expanding their role.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Delegation, coordination of staff and workload.
- Motivation, enthusiasm and passion for a long‑term career in urological services.
- Ability to work cross‑site as needed.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required. Costs (£28 for a standard check, £56 for an enhanced check) will be deducted from salary.
