Clinical Support Worker, Special Care Baby Unit – Whitehaven, Band 3 – 30 hours per week

This role provides compassionate, high-quality care to babies who are preterm or unwell and to their families, under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare practitioners. The post holder will undertake training as required and contribute to the delivery of safe, patient-centred care within the Special Care Baby Unit.

• Work alongside registered nurses to ensure the highest quality of patient care and provide individualized care to babies and their families.
• Extend scope of practice when trained and competent; autonomously undertake appropriate clinical procedures relevant to the area and document following procedures.
• Contribute to housekeeping and ward/department duties as required, including maintaining tidiness, stock levels, and ensuring clinical equipment is clean, functioning, and properly stored.

• Level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent knowledge/experience in range of clinical care duties; completion of competency workbook or equivalent.
• Theoretical knowledge and experience of clinical observations and related procedures.
• Knowledge of data protection legislation and health and safety at work legislation.
• National Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment.
• Numeracy and literacy at Level 2 or equivalent; undertaken relevant additional training for Clinical Support Workers.
• Experience of working in health or social care; understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality (GDPR).

• Excellent interpersonal, communication and active listening skills; ability to communicate with a range of colleagues and families.
• Time management, planning and prioritisation; basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and Trust systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; demonstrates compassionate values and patient-centred care.
• Resilience, ability to work under pressure, and willingness to undertake job-related training and multidisciplinary competencies.
• Venepuncture (where applicable to the role).

• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required; post subject to Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and DBS disclosure; cost may be met by salary deduction.
