Staff Nurse, Women’s Outpatients

Closing date: 16 July 2026

Band 5 Registered Nurse, Women’s Outpatients – 24 hrs per week.

Due to maternity leave, an opportunity has arisen to join our Women’s Outpatients Department at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.

Main duties of the job

Provision of high standard of care, advice and support to all patients and carers attending the Women’s Outpatients Department. Promote patients’ knowledge of their health care needs and treatment, develop confidence to understand the healing process.

Provide outpatient care for all gynaecological conditions including termination of pregnancy, handling emergency referrals from GP’s, A&E and patient self‑referrals. Work in Hysteroscopy, Colposcopy, Early Pregnancy, Termination of Pregnancy, Fertility and general Gynaecology clinics. Provide telephone triage and advice service for emergency gynaecology patients.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with active registration.
  • Teaching certificate (if required).
  • NST 307 or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Student nurse in the NHS or general nursing within the NHS or equivalent.
  • Continuing professional development with portfolio.
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Equality issues and best practice.
  • Budgetary awareness.
  • Experience in surgical/gynaecological procedures.
  • Knowledge of outpatient procedures.

Salary: £32,073 – £39,043 per annum (pro‑rata).
