Role SummaryThis role will work closely with a well‑established client base in the Fleetwood area, including former fishermen and fishermen’s widows, fishing families, as well as a small number of active fishermen across Cumbria. As a Support Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference by helping people navigate challenges, access support, and improve their wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities- Experience in supporting vulnerable individuals (whether through health, age, poverty or circumstance) to achieve positive outcomes both face to face and remotely
- Supported individuals across at least two of the following areas: assessing complex needs, completing grant applications on behalf of individuals, accessing public funds, making referrals, signposting to other organisations, mental health support, physical health support
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently, prioritising work and knowing when to seek support
- Experience in using CRM systems
- Excellent IT skills with good knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships across a broad range of client, stakeholder and partner organisations
- Ability to work within the Christian Ethos of the Fishermen’s Mission
- Full UK driving licence and ability to use own car for business travel (expenses reimbursed)
- Experience of working within a charity or not for profit organisation
- Practicing Christian
- Experience of speaking to a range of audiences about the work that you do, the benefits and impact
- Knowledge of the UK benefits system
- Experience of undertaking community fundraising
- Experience of completing risk assessments
- Mental Health First Aid Certification
- First Aid at Work Certification
- Understanding and experience of safeguarding procedures
- Knowledge of key issues impacting current and former fishermen and their families
