Homelessness Intervention and Prevention Officer needed in Croydon Paying £22.41 per hr  Full time hours on a temporary basis

Key Responsibilities Interview and assess applicants presenting as homeless or threatened with homelessness in accordance with relevant housing legislation. Conduct detailed homelessness assessments and establish eligibility, priority need, local connection, intentionality, and statutory duties owed. Investigate and determine homelessness applications, issuing legally compliant Section 184 decision letters. Develop and implement Personal Housing Plans (PHPs) tailored to individual circumstances. Carry out home visits to verify living circumstances, assess housing conditions, and identify opportunities to prevent homelessness.

Work closely with applicants to explore all available prevention and relief options, including mediation, tenancy sustainment, family reconciliation, and access to private rented accommodation. Make enquiries with landlords, support agencies, social services, healthcare providers, probation services, and other relevant organisations to inform assessments and support outcomes. Negotiate with landlords, family members, and third parties to prevent loss of accommodation where appropriate.

Provide advice and guidance on housing options, homelessness legislation, welfare benefits, and support services. Maintain accurate case records and ensure all decisions, actions, and correspondence are recorded on the housing management system. Attend case conferences, multi-agency meetings, and safeguarding discussions where required. Identify vulnerable individuals and make appropriate referrals to support services. Manage a caseload effectively, ensuring statutory timescales and service standards are achieved.

Prepare reports, correspondence, and legal documentation as required. Contribute to service improvements and support the achievement of homelessness prevention targets.
